Devon Smith is a painter and illustrator working out of her home in New Zealand. After four years of study, Devon received a Bachelor of Fine Arts and now works full time as an exhibiting artist and freelance illustrator.
Devon's work reflects the emphasis she places on drawing, a process she sees as fundamentally important for the creation of her paintings and illustrations.
Devon's most recent work often deals with the concept of fragmented memory through imagery from childhood. She draws on inspiration from personal memories, particularly childhood fears and imagined terrors. Working predominantly in gouache, watercolour and pencil, her paintings have a dreamy, ethereal quality which lends itself well to this notion of half forgotten memories.
Devon has a passion for nostalgia, botanical illustrations, plastic dinosaurs, native birds and English wildlife - all of which often feature in her paintings.
