Ellen Giggenbach was born in Augsburg, Southern Germany and at a young age immigrated to New Zealand, where she is now based in Wellington.

During the artist’s career as a freelance graphic designer her works have been licensed for a number of companies on an extensive variety of products including fabrics and clothing, stationery items, books and packaging, bags and homewares.

Recently Ellen has focused on producing one-off artworks reflecting interests and influences ranging from the traditional folk art of her European heritage, to her affinity with mid century abstract modernism, illustration and design.

Ellen begins each piece by cutting, placing, moving and often exchanging a series of graphic shapes, meticulously cut from art paper that she has previously painted with acrylics in a large selection of colours and hues.
