When put on the spot Margaret could say............
"Once upon a time there was a boy in a home knit jumper. He only had one jumper and it was home knit. He went to bed. When he woke up, he was a sheep, but with his own hands and body still. It was the day of the school photo. He had to go as a sheep.
Moral: There are worse things than home knit jumpers."
Catherine might say...........
"She'd go for a walk just to get out of the house and to leave it all behind for a while. She'd once heard someone say "Don't forget to stop and smell the roses", but where she walked there weren't any. So she just had to make do."
Together they might say.............
What they told us was "if you don't know ask". But as we carried this saying with us through life and applied it to various situations of uncertainty or wonder, we often found the answers supplied were less than the possibilities that existed before the question was asked. This left us disappointed and with a wistful longing for the time before, when anything could be true. So not wanting to cause a similar disappointment in others it is just easier to say "don't ask".
Feel free to come along and see what we're not talking about.
