Anthony Davies's suite of 24 silkscreen prints entitled "The Tin Drum" are inspired by the literary masterpiece of the novel written by Gunter Grass and the subsequent film directed by Volker Schlondorff. The narrative follows the adventures and acquaintances of the "boy" Oskar and his ever present companion "the tin drum".

Anthony Davies was born in England where he trained at the Winchester School of Art and the Royal College of Art. Davies has exhibited extensively: eighty, one person exhibitions in the United Kingdom, Japan, Europe and New Zealand and his work is held in numerous collections including the National Museum of Wales, the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and the Library of Congress, USA. In 1994 the artist was elected as a fellow of the Royal Society of Painters and Etchers.

Davies moved to New Zealand in the early 1990's and later founded the Hotspur Studio in Wanganui.

In conjunction with the 2010 exhibition programme Solander will continue to run workshops on practical printmaking and bookbinding, such as Simple Book Repair on Sunday 18 April with Vincent Drane. Places are limited, see our workshops page for further details.
