Printmaking/ Artist Book Masterclass with Dianne Fogwell
Sunday 30 April
This is one day master class and workshop for artists interested in the relief process, the artist book and collaboration.
Each participant will produce a block and complete a collaborative work in the form of a concertina artist book.
Always a space for experimentation, the concertina book is a platform for innovative elements of design and is a perfect vehicle for collaboration. The folded space allows for individual viewing or when extended there is a landscape for ideas both vertically and horizontally for like minded or opposing thoughts.
The aim of this workshop is to give the participants a master class on the relief print, covering drawing for the block, tool, press and printing approaches along with paper, ink and construction methods for the artist book.
Participants will be encouraged to create an image block in their individual book, to think critically about the journey of each image created by the group and the best way to construct and print the concertina. This will involve the technical elements of printing a long format on a small press or by hand, the sanded fold, cover, placement and the poetics of image and story.
The workshop and master class will engage and motivate the participants to rethink elements such as how to draw for the block, transfer, cut, construct and read the concertina folded format.
Each artist will be sent an image size and concept to think about so they can prepare for their image before coming to the workshop.
