Faith McManus

Faith’'s work often draws upon her Maori and European heritage and is based on her understanding of the interconnectedness of ancestry, myth and culture. Her most recent woodcuts are from the series The Riders of the Red Manuka, based on a local myth of a cowboy western movie filmed in the far north in the 1920’s featuring Maori cowboys. Discovering her Great Grandfather was one of the Maori cowboys, Faith was intrigued to research this fascinating part of New Zealand’s history. Faith has a Masters of Fine Arts and works and teaches in the far north of New Zealand.
