‘Paradise Lost’ on show in Canberra

Launched at Solander Gallery  February 2019 ‘Paradise Lost – Daniel Solander’s Legacy’ is now on exhibition at the Australian National Botanic Gardens in Canberra until 22 September 2020, in conjunction with the ANBG 50th Anniversary.

An exhibition commemorating the legacy of the Swedish botanist Daniel Solander and the first encounter between Sweden and the Pacific Region, New Zealand and Australia, to coincide with the 250th Anniversary of Cook’s first voyage to Australia.

 

Last NZ stop for ‘Paradise Lost’

 Paradise Lost – Daniel Solander’s Legacy is currently on exhibition  at the Millennium Public Art Gallery in Blenheim until 28 June. This is the last opportunity to view the exhibition as it winds up a year long journey around Aotearoa.

Solander spent a substantial amount of time in Totaranui (Queen Charlotte Sound), Marlborough which has been acknowledged with the acquisition of two key artworks from the project for the Gallery’s permanent collection from artists, Michel Tuffery and John McLean.

The artists who produced work for this exhibition are: John Pusateri (Auckland), Alexis Neal (Auckland), Dagmar Dyck (Auckland), John McLean (New Plymouth), Tabatha Forbes (New Plymouth), Michel Tuffery (Wellington), Sharnae Beardsley (Christchurch), Jo Ogier (Christchurch), Lynn Taylor (Dunedin), and Jenna Packer (Dunedin).

Wallace Trust Art Awards

As part of the NZ Festival of the Arts, the Academy Galleries, Wellington is hosting the 28th Annual Wallace Art Awards 2019. Curated by Suzanne Herschell the exhibition features 48 works by the current winners and finalists including works by Solander artists Weilun Ha and John Pusateri. The Exhibition runs until 22 March 2020 and entry is free.

‘Paradise Lost’ in Piteå Sweden

Paradise Lost recently opened in Piteå, Sweden, Daniel Solander’s birth place.  On exhibition at  Piteå Museum until September 26, 2020, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with Piteå Municipality and the Solander Association to honor the legacy of the first Swede to circumnavigate the globe, connecting Aotearoa and Sweden since 1769.

Visit ‘Paradise Lost’ at Puke Ariki

On show at Puke Ariki New Plymouth until 9 February means there are plenty of opportunities during the holidays to visit the award winning touring exhibition ‘Paradise Lost: Daniel Solander Legacy’ before it crosses over to the South Island.

Paradise in the Gardens

Paradise Lost: Daniel Solander’s Legacy touring art exhibition developed in collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden in Canberra is now open at the Auckland Botanic Gardens Huakaiwaka Visitor Centre.  Open daily until 11 October.

An afternoon with Danielle Creenaune & Donna-Marie Patterson Saturday 6 July

Join Sydney artist Danielle Creenaune for a printmaking demonstration in Mokulito (Wood Lithography) at 1pm followed by a interactive discussion with Danielle and Christchurch artist Donna-Marie Patterson about their current exhibitions from 2pm. This is a great opportunity to hear the artists talk about their work first hand, ask questions and find out more about their practice.
This is a free event and everyone is welcome.

WATER \ WAY at Aratoi Museum of Art & History

Aratoi Museum of Art and History is currently hosting WATER \ WAY a multi-media exhibition featuring thirteen New Zealand artists including Solander Gallery artists Jacqui Colley and Jenna Packer.
There will be an opportunity to hear from the artists & curators at a public talk on Sunday 26 May 10.30am.
