Barry Cleavin has been involved in the making and exhibiting of prints since 1966. He has exhibited since that time in some of the worlds most significant Biennales – Berlin, Krakow, Ljubljana, Paris, Sapporo, San Francisco and Tokyo. Barry has also exhibited regularly in New Zealand with major works held in the major Public City Art Gallery Collections.
His prints and drawings generally interface words, image and paradox within etching or digital print mediums. Solo exhibitions have been presented under such titles as ‘The Bitter Suites’, ‘As the Crow Flew’ and ‘Critical Masses’. Barry was awarded ONZM for services to Art and Education, 2000; Doctor of Letters from Canterbury University, 2005. Barry resides in Dunedin and is a full time artist.
